If you’re anything like us, you’re thinking, How are we in March already? Since New Year’s felt like yesterday, summer’s going to be here tomorrow! And the only thing that’s better than summer is saving money in the summer. So don’t get lost in a March blues – be productive! We’ve compiled a list of ways you can save money this summer by doing some quick pre-season maintenance and picking up a thermostat that will save you hundreds every year.
1. Invest In A Programmable Thermostat
The average homeowner can save about $180 a year by investing in a programmable thermostat. It offers four pre-programmed settings to regulate your home’s temperature. These settings allow you to save, without sacrificing your comfort. For example, when you’re not home, you set the thermostat to automatically reduce cooling in your home and save a bundle!
2. Change Filter
You should replace your unit’s filter before summer arrives. An old, dirty filter will eventually cause the unit to break down. Changing it will allow for a cool, comfortable summer. Even after summer is over, it’s a good idea to do monthly filter check-ups.
3. Clean Coils
If you see that the exterior of your outdoor coil is dirty, hose it down. This will remove the dirt and improve the quality of the unit’s efficiency. If you need to clean dirt that’s really deep in the coil, contact an Interstate Air representative to schedule maintenance.
4. Check Level
It’s important to keep your outdoor coil in a level position. If the unit isn’t level because of shifting, re-level it. This way, moisture can properly drain out from underneath the unit.
5. Remove Debris
Keep your unit debris-free. If you keep leaves and debris away from your outdoor unit, it will only need minimal care. Check your base pan (which is located under the unit) from time to time and remove the debris to help the unit drain correctly.
